SC Richard Jr. Richardson Colonel Berkeley County Regiment 1780 1783 First under Col. Richard Richardson (his father). 1776, a Captain in SC 6th Regiment. Promoted to Major, transferred to the SC 2nd Regiment. POW at the Fall of Charleston, paroled. Exchanged in Oct. 1780, and took the reins of his regiment in Marion's Brigade. His regiment was sometimes known as Richardson's Regiment. He recruited many men from the Williamsburg Township in the Georgetown District.

Transferred to the SC 2nd Regiment in Feb. 1780. POW at the Fall of Charleston, paroled after contracting Smallpox at POW camp at Haddrell's Point. Exchanged, and joined Marion's Brigade in October of 1780, elected to Colonel of the Berkeley County Regiment.

POW at the Fall of Charleston. Exchanged June 1780. With Lt. Col. John Marshall, he immediately began assembling the new Kershaw Regiment within the Camden District.

Then chose to have an independent company of Rangers prior to SC 3rd Regiment being formed. Resigned from SC 3rd Regiment 7/29/1775. Authorized to reform his independent Ranger Company again in the New Acquisition District, but was to remain under command of Col. William Thomson. Disbanded at fall of Charleston. Later, a Lt. Colonel again in the militia (same unit).
