First under Col. Thomas Neel. Promoted to Colonel of New Acquisition District Militia after Col. Neel killed at Battle of Stono Ferry 6/20/1779. Resigned after the Fall of Charleston. Returned to active duty after Col. Andrew Neel killed at Rocky Creek (8/3/1780) until right after the battle of Cowpens (1/17/1781), then Col. William Bratton took over the regiment.
