Refused commission in SC 6th Regiment in 1776, since he already had a company of militia. A Captain in SC 1st Regiment later in 1776. A Major in the SC 1st Regiment, resigned 11/8/1779. Major 1779-1780 under Col. Daniel Horry in SC Light Dragoons. A Major/Commandant under Marion in March of 1781 (Maham's Light Dragoons - militia). 6/22/1781, promoted to Lt. Colonel. In October 1781, Marion was authorized to established two new regiments of SC State Troops. Maham commanded the SC 3rd Regiment of State Dragoons. Captured by Loyalists at his own home in August of 1782, paroled, but effectively out for the rest of the war.
