Commander of Charles Town Battalion of Artillery - 6th Independent Company of Artillery. Then a Capt.-Lt. in SC 4th Regiment in 1776 after the battle of Fort Moultrie. Promoted to Captain in 1776, then promoted to Major in 1780. POW at the Fall of Charleston, sent to St. Augustine. Released Sept. 1781, then served to close of war.
